Greatest threat to public media ever faced.
Recently President Trump delivered a specific request to Congress to rescind funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) that was previously approved by Congress. This funding supports 1,500 public media stations across the country, including KSJD.
For many stations federal funding provides 6% to 12% of annual budgets. Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press, Is critical to our country. Unlike the previous executive order attempting to defund NPR and PBS, which has already been challenged in court, this “rescission request,” if successful, would have the full force of law. We must fight to preserve public media connection of culture, news, and music.
A reduction of funding will affect music, news and community support. Burden stations will face is massive shortfalls to fund essential services, like music licensing fees, access to trusted journalism and cultural programming to rural, suburban, or urban communities.
