On My Desk from SMA Institute Research Team

January 6, 2021 By Kevin J Palmer

This was on my desk this morning from an SMAI research team, for me to consider building into in my next podcast.

  1.  Data shows we currently have high rates of sexual problems (may be due to virtual dating).
  2.  Schools are turning back sex ed to no sex ed at all
  3.  Research shows that the Dutch and Scandanavians approach to sexuality works. It’s demonstrably superior due to lower sexual transmission of STD’s, lower teen pregnancy, and a lot lower incidences of sex abuse.
  4.  What we do in the states with abstinence has no data to support that it works.
  5.  Old angry white men want to control women’s bodies in some weird in-direct way through legislation (anit-abortion and insurance not paying for birth control) and it’s hard to understand it. The overarching legacy is the patriarchy. The real question is, why don’t men want women to be more sexual? There is a real disconnect between the decision makers and the scientists.

6.Science is very clear.  When you put condom machines in schools, you reduce unwanted pregnancy. There is no impact on making young people be more sexually active. The HPV vaccine does not make young people more sexually promiscuous.

  1.  There is a real disconnect between the abundance of available data and decision makers who are legislating and removing sex education programs. It extends beyond sexuality and we see it in people who ignore climate change..
  2.  Why don’t men want to promote legislation that allows women to be more sexually free? There are horny guys running around going to prostitutes, jerking off in closets, and molesting children just because they can’t find an outlet for their sexuality. Oh, and I forgot about priests molesting children.
  3.  If you want women to feel more sexual, you need to make them feel safe and respected. It is in the men’s best interest.
  4. Someone needs to make the link for the legislatures that by having abortion safe and accessible, and by having contraceptive free and universally available, they will benefit.  The men may be too old and angry to listen.  If you want women to feel more sexual, you need to make them feel safe and respected. It is in men’s best interest.
