I acquired the attached wine for our sit down, drink and listen of Exile on Main Street.
Like a good wine I never tire of Exile’s complexities, depth of sound and statements of truth about the world at that time. When it was released, I wasn’t paying attention, shucking a parochial school uniform and lacrosse stick for bare feet and waves—but I caught up!
This wine is relevant to me because the Villa Nellcôte in St. Jean-Cap Ferrat South France, was leased to Keith Richards and during a yearlong period when the Rolling Stones recorded Exile on Mainstreet. Built in the late 1890’s the Villa was once owned by a survivor of the Titanic sinking.
So, the question becomes, do we sink or drink a 27-minute bottle and listen to my top six: Torn & Frayed, Loving Cup, Ventilator Bluer, Don’t want to Talk, Let It Loose, Shin a Light.
By collage The Clash released London Calling and it changed my musical taste forever and it may change the next wine.
